We are super excited to finally announce that this Block of the Month laser cut fabric is available! As you know, we love to collaborate – and this project was a collaboration with Hoffman California Fabrics, Fons and Porter and QNNTV. We started working with the talented crew at Hoffman in designing the quilt using their gorgeous hand dyed Bali batiks. We then laid up the pattern and sent it off to QNNTV for them to shoot a video series, for each month and block of the quilt. Next up, Fons & Porter is offering pre-fused and laser cut fabric kits. No tracing or cutting! Just fuse and sew!

The Aviary block of the month is a full-size batik quilt featuring beautiful bird and nature appliques of various sizes and shapes. Learn how to use an applique pressing sheet to make applique assemblies to speed up the construction of the quilt top. Each kit includes detailed instructions for assembly. The quilt also features a unique filigree border. Participants will have access to a free video each month showing techniques used to assemble the portion of the quilt and tips and trick for success in construction. Each month starting in May for 9 months you will receive a pattern and fabric to make a section of this full-size quilt. Kits will include a variety of Hoffman batiks for quilt top and binding. Quilt finished size is 72 1/2″ x 87 1/2″.

Hi, I tried to order the beautiful quilt block of the month called “Aviary” and it is apparently is already out of stock. I had just received my quilt magazine for July and August and it was advertised on the inside of the back cover. I hope that you are considering making more available. Thank you so much. Hi Joyce, I can ask if they plan on ordering more. It’s not up to us (QuiltFusion) we only designed the quilt, but they are producing the kits. I’ll let you know what I find out.

      Thanks

      Keith

I purchased the Avairy Block of the month and the second month’s pattern says to cut 14.5 wide then after sewing the two pieces together it says the piece needs to be 15.5. You can’t get 15.5 if you already cut the pieces as stated at 14.5. I already ruined my background fabric by following the cutting directions. What is the correct measurements for cutting?
Is there any more mistakes in the pattern? The Price is already high and I don’t want to keep buying extra fabric .

Hi Deborah, I apologize if there was confusion in the pattern. I just reviewed the Fabric Cutting instructions for block two, and I am seeing that it says

      From P2963-265-Oyster cut:
      16.5” x 15” piece
      28.5” x 15” piece
Sew the two pieces along the 15” side. The size of
the background block should be 44.5” x 15”.

I do not see any mention of 15.5″ but I do see on the cover that it says 14.5 “finished size” which would not have the 1/4″ seam allowance, but this is not the cut size. If there is a printing error, can you send me a quick snap of the pattern showing the wrong measurements and I will let Keepsake/Fons and Porter know as soon as possible?
